Making love connections

Jonathan and I had a very small morning wedding with a small party later that evening. We only invited about 80 people. The 80 people who meant the most to us. Who would have ever thought that we would have a love connection at our wedding?!?! My best friend from college, Kyle met Katie, the sweetest girl that Jonathan grew up with. 3 and a half years later, we celebrated their wedding.

It is so awesome to know that our love brought two other people together. Especially two people that we love and care so much about. Can I also point out that Kyle and I were born 12 hours apart and everyone always thought we were siblings.

We had the best time hanging out with our friends, Matt & Brooke. At some point while taking pictures, I remember Jonathan saying, "Remember, you are a mother!"

It was also great to see old College friends that I had not seen in years. Wow, we have all grown up!We had a great day. And are so lucky to be a part of the Patterson's life and love story!

Hudson's Construction party

This Friday (June 22nd) my baby boy will turn 3. (Insert me crying). 3 years have flown by. We celebrated this weekend with family and friends. Hudson wanted a digger party. He is totally obsessed with diggers, dumpers, tractors, etc. I had jokingly asked Jonathan if we could rent a backhoe for Hudson's birthday and he told me I was insane. Little did I know he actually would rent one and surprise both Hudson & I.  The look on Hudson's face when the flatbed truck pulled up to our house Saturday morning was priceless.
We had a tool table, a digger area, the bouncy house and the backhoe ready to go for everyone to play!

My friend, Anna helped me think of construction names for the food and Hudson loved blowing out the candles and eating cake.

We had a ball and were so overwhelmed by presents and love!

Hudson had a wardrobe change thanks to a water fight and after everyone left, Daddy and Hudson went cruising. Someone was not happy to say goodbye to the digger.

We ended the weekend with a cookout with both of our dads (the grandpa's) and Lisa.

It was a perfect weekend. I cannot wait to celebrate Hudson all week!!!!!!

Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition

Are you watching Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition? I swear, this is the best show on TV. Chris Powell is an amazing trainer who comes into these extrememly overweight individuals lives for a year and helps them lose 200+ pounds.

ABC describes it as:
"Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition is a unique undertaking that's unlike anything you've ever seen TV. The show documents the amazing makeover of eight courageous, obese individuals who set out to safely lose half of their body weight over the course of a year. The metamorphosis is truly amazing.
Trainer/transformation specialist Chris Powell (The 650-Pound Virgin) guides each of the eight participants through the process after moving into their homes. He's there to make sure the participants get the proper nourishment and exercise movement. Chris provides a fresh perspective to individuals whose lives have become unmanageable because of their weight.
In each of the eight one-hour episodes, participants undergo a transformation not only of their bodies, but of who they are as individuals. Each stand-alone episode of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition chronicles one participant's journey."

It gets me every week. I sit there and just cry. Jonathan and I watch it together and we both love it. Although we watched it off DVR last night and both felt really bad about eating tacos while these people were working their hiney's off! It is an amazing, feel good show. It makes you put your life in perspective. I complain all the time that I need to lose the last 5 lbs of baby weight but these people weigh 300-500 lbs. They can hardly move, sit in cars or stand in their showers. To watch what they accomplish in 1 year is out of this world.

It comes on Sunday nights on ABC at 9.

*Hudson slept 5 solid hours last night. He still feels awful but I am so glad he got a little bit of sleep. I had my first Coke in 3 weeks today and I cannot stop shaking! Let's pray for a nap today. I cannot handle another day with no nap!!!

24 hours

It is currently 11 pm. I have officially been awake for 24 hours. Why you may ask, my son is sick. And not the sick where he sleeps for 4 hours and wakes up feeling a little better like he usually does. He is coughing non stop. He coughs so much that he throws up or starts to choke. He goes to bed and wakes up every 10 -12 minutes (oh yes I have timed it) screaming and crying.

We got rid of the glider we had in his nursery when we moved here so the only chair in his room is this precious Pottery Barn chair
And that is where I was last night from 2-5am. In that chair with him laying on me. He could only get situated laying on my chest. I should have taken him to our room but my husband snoores like a grizzly bear, or I should have gone to the guest bed but that is where Jonathan's bathroom is and I did not want him barging in at 6am waking us up......... little did I know we would not sleep. Side note- seperate bathrooms really make a marriage stronger.

We went to the doctor this morning and she said it is a very bad virus. One that last 3-4 days. Which is super great timing since we had 4 playdates planned, family coming in town, our good friends wedding and Hudson's birthday party this week (ah, stop the selfish thinking mommy). He did not get a prescription which is my ultimate pet peeve.

I tried several times to get him to nap today but he fought it each time. He would scream and cry, fall asleep and wake up 10 minutes later to cough, gag and puke. He would not even lay in our bed to watch a movie. He just kept walking around the house throwing himself on the floor crying or wanting me to hold him. I feel awful for him. He clearly cannot get comfortable enough to rest and relax. There is nothing worse than knowing you cannot make your baby feel better.

I am on such a Starbucks high ( 3 trips today) that I may never sleep again. Which is good since Hudson has woken up 14 times since we put him down at 7:30. He's so tired that his eyes are swollen, his nose looks like Niagra Falls, his fever spiked to 103 before dinner but luckily went down after some Motrin, his cough sounds like he has been smoking for 80 years and his mood is.... Oh, I can't even go there. It's just plain awful.

I do not like when he is sick. I always worry that maybe the doctor missed something or another virus came after we left the office. I am a worry wart by nature. That's my baby. We he hurts, I hurt.

So if anyone has suggestions, or wants to come be our nighttime nurse, or drop a wonderful meal on my porch I am willing to take it. Kidding about the meal, well, maybe I am.

It has been a rough day but I would not have done it for anyone else than this sweet boy. I just hope we finally get a little rest tonight and tomorrow we turn a corner. Lord knows I am a girl who worships sleep. I may look like dawn of the dead tomorrow.

Sisters

I love this
I love having a sister! There are many days I talk to my sister 3 or 4 times a day. We talk about everything and nothing at the same time. I cannot imagine my life without her!

 Holy blonde hair flashback

Sometimes I think she is the only oe who understands me. She listens and loves me no matter what. She also gave me the most beautiful babies to love on and made me an Aunt. I love her!
I am so grateful for the closeness of my family!

Fun Friday morning

Wow, what a week it has been. 3 nights out, 6 playdates, lots of errands.... I am exhausted and my house is a DISASTER! One day I am going to get myself together. Maybe tomorrow?

One of my favorite things about our house is the proximity to North Hills. I am obsessed with North Hills. I could literally survive with the stores located there. They have wonderful activities for kids and I love putting Hudson in the stroller and walking up there. This moring we met his friend Claire for thumb print art class.

With free milkshakes from Chick-fil-A

                                                             Storytime with the cow

Hudson loves hugging the "chicken cow"

And playing a little game

It was so cute.

We ran home (literally) and had some outside time.

He is obsessed with this firetruck that squirts water. Obviously our chiminea was on fire.

He also found his way into his water table.

I should admit that I took all of these pictures while lounging in a chair. This week has worn me out and mama needed a little sun.

On a blogging roll

I am on a blogging roll. This is blog #2 in less than 12 hours.

Let me start by saying that it is 8:45 am and we have been awake for over 3 hours. Poor Hudson wet his bed. 5:30 is not a fun time to wake up. At all. Especially for me. I am not a morning person. I think I have said it before but I find that I really am not at full functioning mode until after 10 am. It may be a very long day.

We have new additions to our family...
the front fern birds
The back fern birds

Baby birds are really not cute. But we have loved watching them go from eggs to babies. Hudson likes to check on them throughout the day.

Hudson & Bailey have been super snuggly lately

Yesterday was National running day so Hudson & I celebrated with new fast runners
It's sad that his foot is almost as big as mine

Yesterday Hudson was begging to call his daddy at work so I dialed the number really fast. I heard a male voice answer so I said "Hey, here's Hudson." Hudson started talking and then said, "Daddy? What are you saying? Daddy? Hello? What?" I took the phone to make sure Jonathan could hear him and the voice on the other line was a hispanic man. Guess I was too distracted while dialing.

Fire station

I have tried to plan something fun for us to do everyday this summer. We have worked on art projects, practicing writing Hudson's name
For some reason that picture will not rotate on my computer. But he is a child genius.

We have been on many lunch and dinner dates with friends, North Hills open play, pool parties, the library, museum, scavenger hunts, daddy's kickball games (HILARIOUS), etc.

But I think Hudson's favorite activity so far was going to the firetruck station yesterday! He is fascinated with firetrucks. He will scream at the top of his lungs when he sees one or hears a siren coming.

We were headed to eat lunch yesterday when we passed the firestation. 2 firetrucks were outside so  I decided to pull over and see if we could go on a tour. The sweet firemen were so gracious and welcoming to us. All of them came out and showed him every single detail of the station. Then it was time to see the firetrucks. Man oh man, was my boy happy.

While he was in the truck they let him try on boots, a jacket and a mask. They taught him about stop, drop and roll. He even got to turn on the siren and lights. They were so sweet to give him a coloring book, stickers and a hat. I was very impressed and it warmed my heart to see how nice they were and took the time to let Hudson explore and ask questions. He cracked me up because his questions were...

"Can I drive it?"

"Why do you sleep here?"

"Is this a boom or a pumper truck"

"Where are your bandaids?"

and

"What do firemen eat?"

Before we left I asked to snap a picture of Hudson with 2 of the firemen. Much to my surprise I think they thought I was taking a photo for a pin up calendar.... I mean seriously, they were standing normally and then struck a pose.
Thank goodness for brave men and women who put their lives on the line to help us and to make my little guy so happy.

Who does Hudson look like?

I get asked all the time who Hudson looks like. I think he is a really good combination of both of us. He definitely has my eyes. But when I look at pictures of Jonathan as a 2 year old, it is no contest.

Jonathan age 2
