More Halloween

OF COURSE WE (I) DRESSED UP BAILEY AS A BALLERINA!

Halloween was so fun this year. Hudson still has no clue what is happening but he did so well in his costume! Thank you to all of our family and friends who made it so special for the little guy! (Even our 98 year old neighbor made him a special goody bag). He had a ball and did surprisingly well in his giraffe suit. And I have to say, what a cutie! Hope your Halloween was spooktacular!

Yawwwwwwwwwn

Jonathan and I always look forward to Wednesdays. It is the one night that we agree on what to watch. The Middle, Better with You and Modern Family always make us laugh. We watched the first 2 and then the dumb storm system come on. Really?!!? You are interrupting Modern Family, the best show on TV, to tell me about a storm 70 miles away?!?! I was so annoyed. And then I got stressed. What if the storm is as bad as they are making it out to be and it will hit Raleigh while we are asleep, a tree will crash through Hudson's room and I wont be able to grab him. (You do remember that I am the paranoid parent, right?)

So I went and grabbed Hudson and put him in our bed. He did not wake up at all. Jonathan knew he would not be able to sleep with both of us, so he went downstairs. I snuggled my sleeping boy for a while and then fell asleep. HOLY MOLY! Who knew how much a 1 1/2 year old moved in their sleep? Finally around 2am I had enough. After being kicked, punched and smacked in the face, I moved my sleeping boy back to his crib.

I am working on 4 hours of sleep but it was worth it to snuggle with my boy (and save his life from a bad, bad storm...haha)

Airplanes and beads

Last night Hudson and I went to pick up Jonathan from the airport, he had been in New Orleans for a few days. We always go a little early so we can play at the observation deck. Last night was the first time Hudson was into the planes. He loved pointing at them, but he also loved walking around and exploring.

I thought we would get great gifts since New Orleans is such an exciting place. Clearly I forgot that Jonathan does not like to shop. He brought us home beads, how original. (insert sarcasm). Hudson loves them. He sat around half naked this morning wearing them.

Happy 16 months, Hudson!

Today my "baby" turns 16 months old. It is hard to call him a baby when he looks and acts like such a big boy. I guess he will always be my "baby!"

He still has a horrible cough and is teething. It has been over a month since I had a healthy boy. He is slowly showing signs of progress.

He loves to do any and everything outside. Especially if his fur sister is with him. He is a stubborn little man and will let you know when he does not want to do something or is not ready to leave somewhere. He wants to walk everywhere and touch everything. He has a hard time staying still. Changing his diaper and getting him dressed are the biggest battles in our house. It takes about 15 minutes and I always start sweating. He loves climbing the stairs and sitting at the very top with Bailey. He has learned to pat his leg when he wants her to follow him and he did it to me the other day. It is so cute.

Hudson has really gotten into matchbox cars, trains and tractors. He loves to walk around with the phone and pretend like he is talking. He enjoys playing hockey with Jonathan..... except he uses his plastic golf clubs and golf balls. When I grab the diaper bag and keys, he walks to the door and is eager to leave. He finally likes ice cream, a huge accomplishment in this house! He is OBSESSED with books and could read and look at them all day long. He loves to color and put stickers on paper. The bathtub is another favorite place. He is a little splash monster. He is also very, very into pointing at everything. He loves for you to tell him what everything is.

We had our second Fire safety class yesterday. Much to our surprise an actual fire truck came. I had a very happy and intrigued little boy on my hands.

So curious

Watching him grow up is the most exciting and enjoyable thing. I love every minute of it. Happy birthday, little monkey! We love you to the moon and back.

Recipes

Here are 2 of our favorite dishes....

Maple Glazed Turkey Roast

This one is kind of time consuming, but it is one of our favorites! Hudson cannot eat it fast enough.

Ingredients
1 (3 pound) boneless turkey breast roast, thawed
1/2 cup pure maple syrup, or more as needed
1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring (optional)
1 teaspoon ground paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried crushed thyme
1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste

Directions
1.Preheat an oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2.Remove the plastic netting and wrap from the turkey roast, if any, but leave on string netting. (Remove and discard gravy packet, if any). Rinse the turkey, and pat dry with paper towels.
3.Mix together the maple syrup, smoke flavoring, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and cayenne pepper in a bowl, stirring to combine well. Brush the syrup mixture all over the turkey roast.
4.Place the roast, skin side up, on a baking rack set in a roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven, basting occasionally, until the roast is golden brown and a meat thermometer inserted into the center of the roast reads 170 degrees F (75 degrees C). Roasting time is about 1 1/2 hours. Wrap the roast in foil, and let stand 10 minutes before removing the string netting for slicing.

Bacon, Cheese and Potato Chowder

Ingredients:
3 cups fat-free milk
1 can (10-3/4 oz.) condensed cream of potato soup
2 cups frozen Southern-style hash browns
1 cup KRAFT 2% Milk Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
2 slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon, cooked, crumbled

Directions:

MIX milk and soup in large saucepan. Stir in hash browns. Bring to boil on high heat, stirring occasionally; simmer on medium-low 10 min., stirring frequently.

SERVE topped with cheese and bacon.

Add a slice of sourdough roll and butter and it is perfect for a fall night!

He also sat on a 4 wheeler for the first time at his grandpa's house (Jonathan's dad)!

Capped off with some swinging

He helped his Great Grandpa celebrate his 81st birthday and tonight he gets to eat with his other Papa (my dad)! What a loved little boy! Hope your weekend was fabulous!

Friday thoughts....

Hello friends!!! I am sorry I was missing this week. We had a busy week and I finally have time to sit and gather my thoughts.

~ Hudson is getting 2 bottom teeth. He now has a full row! These teeth are really giving him a hard time. He has been very fussy and clingy. I think he would be content if I held him 24 hours a day.

~ Hudson and I went to story time at the library Wednesday and were surprised to find a fireman there to talk about fire prevention. Hudson loved it!!! He did not move for 30 minutes and clapped every time the fireman talked. We learned a new "911" song and he loves for me to sing it.

(Notice he is the only one standing! I guess he needed a perfect view)

~ Hudson has also learned to climb up all the stairs, he eats off a plate and bowl now, he only wants to walk when we go out in public and when you ask him if he "poopied," he grabs the back of his diaper and walks up the stairs for you to change him. HILARIOUS!

~ There are still 2 weeks until Halloween and all 3 of our pumpkins have rotted.

~ Bobby Cox served his last game at the Braves manager Sunday night and you should have seen my husband crying when he took the field for the last time. What a drama queen. I almost feel like I should buy him a few therapy sessions so he can get over this.

~ I have a weeks worth of DVR to catch up on. I was a tv slacker this week.

~ Did you watch any of the Chilean Miners rescue? Talk about crying, it was so touching to see them all hug their families! What a miracle. And I heard that one of them had his mistress show up instead of his wife. I am pretty sure if Jonathan cheated on me and was stuck in a cave for 2 months, I would be waiting to throw him right back in.

Have a great weekend! We are looking forward to taking Hudson to the North Carolina State Fair!!!! And yes, it is safe. I asked our pediatrician! Funnel cake, hot dogs and cotton candy, here we come!!!!!

Museum of Natural Sciences and State Capital

This weekend we took Hudson down to the Museum of Natural Sciences. We have not been since he started walking and we thought it would be a great place for him to explore. He had so much fun! His main concern was not the animals, but all the buttons and gadgets that place has!!

Afterwards we walked across to the street to the State Capital building for a snack and high hopes of a great photo session.... that did not happen.... but we did learn that Hudson loves trees.
