Hanging in

I am still hanging in there. Today is my 1st day without any help and it has been a pretty big nightmare but life could be a lot worse.

I mentioned the other day that the baby gate to the kitchen is down. This opens a new world for Hudson. It takes me a good 1-2 minutes to get from 1 side of the house to the other. While I was getting dressed, Hudson escaped to the kitchen. I came in and found him with 3 containers of food dumped on the floor, syrup spread over it and a spatula. He told me he was cooking. Squatting down to clean it up was a whole other story. Thank goodness for Bailey to lick a lot of it up. My nerves were shot by 9am.

My mom and my friends have been the biggest help. I cannot drive, walk.... basically do anything alone. It's getting easier and I am feeling better but I have really just been having a pity party. My mom was taking Hudson yesterday but she took me out for fresh air for a little bit too.

We went to Open Play at North Hills and had lunch. Hudson had so much fun and I loved getting out, watching Hudson play and having help.

It's so nice to feel so loved ....... I have loved all the phone calls and emails too, thanks friends! xo

Gimp mommy

Hudson has developed a bit of sass. Surely he did not inherit that from me. Lately he has been saying, "Do not talk to me that way!" I try my hardest not to laugh. He repeats everything I say and that phrase usually comes out of my mouth after he screams at me for a "banana! yogurt! chesse! milk! now, mommy, now!"

I have a stress fractured hip. Let me tell you, it is a ball of fun to be on crutches with a toddler. My hip has been bothering me for a while. I've really been pushing the running and more exercise since bathing suit season is upon us (throw up in my mouth). Last Friday after a 4 mile run I thought I was dying. I could hardly make it back home. I tried to ignore it all weekend thinking I pulled a muscle or pinched something. Finally Sunday after mowing the grass... oh yeah- my father in law even witnessed it- I felt paralyzed. I could hardly walk 3-4 steps without falling over or having to hold onto something. I went in for x-rays and some testing and was diagnosed with a hairline stress fracture. They suggested an MRI but I am so claustrophobic that would never work for me. I am on crutches and cannot really do anything for 4-6 weeks. Do you have any idea how long that is? Or how hard it is to do so many little things? Putting Hudson in the car, walking from the mailbox to the house, getting dressed, everything is hard and painful. Thank goodness for such wonderful friends who have helped so much and my mom who I literally pushed Hudson off on. Jonathan has been amazing and has taken on so many more roles in our house; as if he does not do enough already! I think the thing that drives me the craziest is that the baby gate to the kitchen is down and Hudson is so curious. He made himself about 15 snacks last night before I could pull myself up to get in there! This is going to be rough.

Friday night we took Hudson to watch the State baseball game. We started with a tailgate to Char-Grill

It was a gorgeous night and Hudson was sooooo into the game.

Around the 6th inning he got bored. No popcorn, fruit snacks or raisins could keep him in his seat. So up and down the bleachers we went looking for Mr. and Mrs. Wuf, magnets, posters, etc. Finally Jonathan realized he could not watch the entire game so we left. Shwew!

Tomorrow we are heading to the Fresh Beat Band concert. I am not sure if Jonathan or Hudson is more excited. It stinks that our spring break is plagued by my injury but by golly, we will still have fun!

Hudson's class Easter party

Hudson's class had their Easter party yesterday and it was my holiday to host. I really enjoyed it.

How cute are they?!

We started with an egg hunt

Made bunny masks as a craft

And had yummy cupcakes and a little lunch

Being in the classroom with Hudson is one of my favorite things. I got there early to set up while his class was on the playground and observing him play melted my heart. He loves his friends. He adores his teachers and he really enjoys learning. We are so blessed with a wonderful church and preschool!

Hello blog

Hello blog friends,

I am so sorry I have neglected you. I have been too busy with life in general that sitting and taking 5 minutes to think of something creative has not been on my to do list.

Today is a big day in our family... the Wolfpack is playing in the sweet 16. My boys are both beside themselves.

You may not know but my husband worked for the basketball team throughout college. He was there 7 years ago when they played in the sweet 16. During the game last week they showed highlights from that tournament.... guess who was on them?

Isn't that hysterical? That's exactly how he reacts when watching the games at home too... no kidding.

We had our State flags on the car all week and I called Jonathan the other day because people kept honking at me and giving me the thumbs up. I was so confused. After a phone call to Jonathan he assured me that it was the flags, not me.

I cannot imagine how Raleigh would react if State won. It would be so exciting. Go Wolfpack! Howwwwwwwwwwwwl!

Dream home

While little munchkin took a sweet little nap today

I sat outside and flipped through old Southern Living magazine for ideas. I came across a house I found last year and drooled over. This home is perfection for me.

The home itself is simpling divine. I love the huge yard, the garden, there is a pool in the back that you cannot see from this picture, the horse, the guest house.... I love everything about it. I just need a white duck and a big old pig and it would complete me.

Yes, I posted the picture twice. I just cannot stop looking at it.

A day in pictures

We started off the morning with a battle over getting dressed. Hudson hates getting dressed lately and I always walk away dripping in sweat from wrestling the wild beast. Today I gave in after the 50th time of him saying, "I do by myself." This is what I got

We went to the library to get new books and I lost Hudson. Literally. I was doing the self checkout and he was standing with me. He kept inching and inching away. I thought he was going to sit on a stool but as I turned to check out the last book and get our receipt he disappeared. I did a big lap around the library and then started to panick. I was screaming his name. 2 of the librarians know us very well so they got up and started to help me. I dropped everything and ran outside. The library has slidding glass doors and goes out to a busy parking lot so I freaked out that he could have walked out alone. I came running back in and ran to the storytime classroom. He was sitting in the corner reading a book. Thank God he was ok but I swear my heart stopped. I squeezed him so tightly for the longest time. For an hour I could hear my heart beating. It was the worst feeling I have ever felt. That has never happened to be before and it proved that even the most protective mom can let a horrible thing happen in 2 seconds.

We recovered and came home for a picnic.

Hudson has not been napping in his crib. He fights the battle. In all honesty since he is almost 3 he should probably be in a big bed but until he insists, I am not moving him. He finally passed out with Bailey.

We went to the airport playground while we waited for Jonathan's flight

And then went to eat outside at our favorite pizza place

I wish the 80 degree weather would stay for a long time!!

Thank God Hudson was found and Jonathan is home safely.

Catching up

- I have yet to lay my hands on Girl Scout cookies this year. That's depressing and wonderful all in one.

- I survived another week of single parenting. A traveling husband makes for a tired wife!

- Hudson wrapped his arms around my neck and told me I was his best friend today. I almost cried.

- Pink eye has entered our house. Not fun. Not fun at all.

- My adorable niece and nephew were here this weekend. We did not get enough time with them, thanks to pink eye, but we did have some fun. Along with pink eye, Hudson is sporting a black eye thanks to using his crib as a trampoline.

- Our yard is so neglected (traveling husband). I tried to mow the grass today but after about 5 minutes of trying realized I had no idea how to start a mower.

- I am addicted to Pinterest.

- I am also addicted to lemons. I bought 2 indoor lemon trees this weekend. let's hope I can keep them alive.

- I had a lady tell me it was going to cost $7,500 to put plantation shutters in our house. Let me go ahead and write that check............

- Hudson and I watched Bambi for the 1st time a few weeks ago. My parents never let me watch it as a child and now I know why. I sobbed and held on to Hudson for dear life. He had no idea what was going on. But now he keeps asking me if I can be Thumper.

- We had ice cream for dinner last night. (single parenting 101).

- My allergies may kill me before April.

- GCB is my new favorite show. I love a good Christian woman who talks bad about you and then prays. (Sunday nights on ABC at 10)

- I made this Pimento Cheese last weekend and it is simply heaven. And has no mayo!!! I have snacked on it all week

Ingredients
8-ounce package cream cheese
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
8 ounces mild cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup pimentos
pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions
1. Cream together cheeses.
2. Stir in pimentos and salt and pepper.

That is all my brain can think of for now.

Last things

I stole this idea from Ashley! (except she did a lot of pictures and took a lot more time than I plan to do. Thanks, Ashley!)

The last.......

BOOK I READ:

Decision Points by George Bush. I loved this book.
Yes, its been a while since I read. However, I did read US Weekly today.

SHOW I LAUGHED AT:

(I am stealing Ashley's because I feel the exact same way)

Last week's Leap Day episode of Modern Family.

This show cracks me up. I am such a mix of overly OCD Claire and overly flamboyant Cam. Jonathan is so Phil. So, so, so Phil.

THING I ATE:

Southwest chicken salad at Chic-fil-a. This should really be shocking since
A. I hate Chic-fil-a and
B. I really hate Chic-fil-a

But what's a girl to do when there is finally a drive thru near Hudson's school that has healthier food and she really does not want to cook?

MOVIE I WATCHED:

Finding Nemo- clearly, not my choice

PERSON I TEXTED:

My husband.

He was overly excited to tell me he ran on a treadmill by Nicholas Cage in Las Vegas. He also thought it was breaking news to tell me he is the dirtiest, greasiest person ever. Duh, I saw ConAir.

TV SHOW I WATCHED:

Real Housewives of Orange County.

PICTURE I TOOK ON MY PHONE:

Hudson's allergies have been giving him the hardest time. He passed out on my bed before 6pm. This was overly shocking because he has never fallen asleep anywhere other than his crib. Poor little dude.

CELEBRITY I STALKED:

Hmmm. Well, I did look at Jessica Simpson's pregnancy photo shoot for Elle magazine. Clearly photo shopped. She is bigger than a house. No one wants to see a naked pregnant lady. Put your clothes back on and go eat some pickles.

THING I BOUGHT:
Groceries

MEAL I MADE:

Shrimp & mac and cheese. Again, Hudson's request

THING I RAN OUT OF:

Milk. Not a good thing to run out of.

SHOES I WORE:

Gold Jack Rogers.

SONG I SANG:

Jesus Loves me.

Again, It's Hudson's world.

Pillows

While playing around on Etsy.com the other day, I found a site called Milk & Cookies. This lady has wonderful fabric covers for pillows. I have been looking high and low for pillows that I love. I need some for our bed, the window seat and the sofa. Why not just buy an affordable cover for pillows we already have?! Genius. She is very well priced too. These are all patterns I am eyeing

Easter party mom

Back in September I signed up to host the Easter party for Hudson's class. I figured that would give me time to observe what all the other moms did for the other holiday parties. :) The party is usually only about 30 minutes and involves a little feast, treat bag and a craft.

Thanks to Pinterest and Michael's Art store, I think I have my ideas. I bought Bunny masks that they can decorate with crayons, stickers & paint.

And I am going to make these little snacks

Cute little "treat" bag

Bunny bait.... how adorable!

I have Easter fever already!

Hudson and the car

Hudson is really good about getting in the car. He usually never fights me on it, only moms know what that means! He is suuuuper talkative in the car. He likes to tell me what color every car is, when he sees a truck, mail truck, money truck, bus, cement truck, fire truck, "race car', etc. But over the past week he has developed some not so nice habits...

- Last week he threw a sippy cup, racecar and a shoe at my head.

I find that as I drive I say things that are not normal

- Please stop throwing things at mommy.

- No, it's not time to unbuckle.

- No, we cannot race that car. No, mommy is not Lightning McQueen. Or Mater, or Sally, Or Ramone, Or Finn McMissle.

- I cannot find your sunglasses right now, can you please wait until I am stopped?

- I cannot play peek a boo right now.

- No, we are not going to get tacos.

That's a glimpse at my life. Ever eventful! And that's just on 5 - 10 minute trips!
