Daniel and Renee's wedding

Hudson survived his 1st wedding! He played with daddy, Will, Caroline and Aunt Lulu during the ceremony (they left as soon as the bride walked in). This left me sitting on the back row by my lonesome and SOBBING like a baby. I am not sure if it was the sympathy "OMG my cousin Daniel is bawling his eyes out" cry or the "Having a baby turned me into a mush" cry. My sister who I often refer to as "heart of stone" also cried. I do not even think she cried at my wedding. I think the part that got us was watching all 4 Schenk siblings hug as they walked down the aisle to stand beside their brother as he married the woman of his dreams. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception and we were so happy to be a part of their special day.

Things I love this week

This has been a crazy week. We have been so busy and there is just no end in sight. Here are a few things I love this week...

1. McDonald's smoothies.... Sounds gross, I know but I am in love! Considering that I do not eat fast food, this says a lot that I found out about these.

2. My best friend being in town. I have laughed so hard that it hurts. I know she reads this so here is my favorite quote from this week- "They look like brother in sister." "No, they look like brother and brother."

3. My little cousin Daniel is getting married tomorrow. We love, love, love Renee and cannot wait for them to FINALLY tie the knot. Plus a family wedding = my sister and her precious little ones are coming to town!!!!

4. Tori Spelling's new book "Unchartered TerriTori". I found myself laughing out loud. "The woottle is on fire, the woottle is on fire."

5. Heidi filed for divorce and Spencer claims their relationship was "All a part of The Hills." Whhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! Say it is not so. They actually had a huge ceremony just for tv? So ridiculous.

6. I went in for my one year annual and cancer screening and I am not only NOT pregnant (always good to know) but I weigh 1 pound more than I did before I got pregnant. Thank you Hudson for keeping me so busy!

7. Hudson says his name now. "Huuuudssssssssssssnnnnn" He forgets the "O". It is adorable. We thought it would take him forever to learn how to say his name. This is a big deal considering he only says about 6 other words.

8. My husband is home for a weekend. Thank you God and baby Jesus.

9. Kettle chips. I could eat my face off with these things. I hate french fries but can eat an entire basket of these by myself. (Which I have done twice this week, thank you Mo Joe's)

10. Tan lines. Everyone looks better with a tan.

Mall trip from HELL

There are often times where I think "surely it cannot take this much effort to get Hudson and his things in the car and run 1 errand." Whenever we leave the house I always have my pocketbook and his bag full of diapers, wipes, a snack, juice, toys, books, nose wipes, sunscreen, bug spray, an extra outfit and bibs. Ridiculous, right?

So today I decided I did not need those things, I just wanted to run into Belk's to pick up a few pair of pajamas for Hudson. It sounded so simple in my head.

I left the store wanting to stab myself in the eyeballs. Here is a rundown of my mommy mistakes.

1. I went without a stroller. Carrying a 25 pound child who feels the need to lunge at every clothes hanger he sees is not fun.

2. We had been there for about 5 minutes when I heard the familiar moan and groan. Yep, Hudson took a poop. No diaper bag in sight. I cleaned it up as best as I could in the bathroom before we left.

3. We lost a croc. (I swore up and down that I would never put Crocs on Hudson, they are way to hideous but they are just so easy for him to wear.) It must have happened during one of the many tantrums he threw while lunging at clothes. I figured it out once we got to the car. I wanted to just forget it and leave the shoe there, but I knew that was ridiculous and lazy of me. Luckily we found it.... well the sales girl did and she so nicely walked over and pointed to it. She had no intention of bending down to pick it up for me, that would have been too helpful.

It was one of the more stressful situations I have put myself in, in a long time. Luckily we are home now and my little man is asleep and clean in his bed.

This picture has nothing to do with my post, I just like it.

Funny Hudson

Hudson was full of himself this week. I know I have said it before but he is into EVERYTHING, hilarious and constantly on the go.

Wednesday we went to the pool, came home took a bath and got straight in the bed for nap time. I let him sleep in just his diaper a lot because he gets so hot. Two hours later, I could hear him waking up over the monitor. I usually give him a few minutes to wake up before I go and get him.

I started to hear a rustling noise and then, "mama, mama, MAMA!" When I walked in to his room, Hudson was standing in his crib, completely naked and holding his diaper out for me. He said, "Hey mama." Thank goodness it was just a wet diaper!

Yesterday he was playing on the floor with his toys so nicely. He started crawling and took off towards Bailey. He hit her and said, "Ammmmmmmen!" I lost it. I am not sure if I have ever laughed that hard in my life. He has never said that word before but obviously he felt the Lord move through him!

Have a great weekend!

Busy Bee

Hudson has been a busy bee this week!

Jonathan was out of town for a few days.... I know, I know, I should not post that on the Internet but considering the police now circle our street because my across the street neighbor is a psycho drug addict, I feel safe sharing that with you. 3 police and the K9 unit were at her house this past Friday. (This is the 3rd time in 2 weeks that the police have been here.) What a sight to see. It sent me into a GIGANTIC nervous breakdown because I want her out of our neighborhood so badly. I was awake for 3 straight nights staring out the window in fear.

Anyways..... Hudson and I stayed as busy as we could hoping that it would make the time that Jonathan was away go faster. We went to the pool and library to read on Thursday, had a pool play date on Friday and watched all the neighborhood chaos unfold, went to story time on Saturday morning(Hudson crawled up to almost every child there and held his finger up to tell them he was "1"), went to the doctor- I thought he had an ear infection but it is just his teeth and went to Ransom's 30th birthday party. Sunday we went to the airport observation deck for an hour before we picked up Jonathan and Hudson loved it. He clapped at every plane that flew by. We also cried, cried, cried. Apparently getting 4 molars and another bottom tooth makes for one ornery baby! Not to mention last week he had 5 allergic reactions and we have no idea what they were to. We are now keeping track of all of his foods so we can try and pin point it ourselves before going to the allergist.

I know this post was a huge rant and I apologize. My brain is just so scattered right now. Da*n neighbor and new teeth!

Bath time

Hudson always finds a way to make me laugh. Bath time is a "Hudson and daddy" nightly routine. It is my 20 minutes alone to clean up dinner, put away toys and enjoy a little silence. I never knew that Hudson started doing this until I gave him a bath tonight..... clearly he is either impatient or loves a bath.

Big boy

Hudson got a big boy haircut today. I have been putting it off for so long but after seeing Jonathan give him a rat tail the other night, I decided that it was time. I cut his hair this afternoon while he took a bath. I was shocked that his hair had become so long. I was also shocked at what a good job I did. I knew that I would not be able to watch anyone else do it. I would either cry or keep my eyes closed in fear.

Final result....(obviously he was proud of it) He looks like a little boy now, no more baby hair

On a side note.....

I am always pacing the grocery store aisles for easy dinner to fix. I am way, way too picky so finding an entire meal to eat is often hard for me. Our weekly meals consist of some kind of chicken or turkey and 2 vegetables or a salad. I cannot stand to eat red meat which totally stinks for Jonathan. So I am trying to branch out and spice up our plain nightly dinners. I have tried frozen skillet dinners from Wanchai Ferry and a Contessa Micro Steam. The Wanchai was pretty good but it was so spicy that I looked like I had been crying for a week.

While clipping coupons I saw that TGI Fridays had a loaded potato, broccoli, chicken dinner. We decided to try it. (Remember how OCD I am? I make my meal list for the week and then go to the grocery store to get all the ingredients.) So tonight was TGI Friday's dinner. I put it on the plates and I already thought it looked horrible but I did not want to say anything. Jonathan and I took a bite at the same time..... Mine got spit onto the floor after 2 chews --- (horrible, horrible gag reflex that I have. I just cannot swollow disgusting things. I know how rude it is but I promise it is better than me throwing it up at the table) I looked back at Jonathan and he looked like he was eating dog food. Here was my husband who will eat ANYTHING having a hard time swallowing something. Finally after a few more attempts to chew, he spit it out! I have never seen him do that. Promise me that you will never buy this in the store. I would rather eat the plastic bag that it came in. It was beyond horrible. Jonathan does not even think it was chicken.

So what to eat???? We realized that we had to go to Costco for trash bags so we bought a hot dog for Jonathan and a slice of pizza for me from the food court. I gave that food court so much grief, but my friend Jamie convinced us to eat there and the pizza is soooo good. We order it all the time. They also have a great strawberry smoothie. And cheap, cheap, cheap. And do not worry about little man.... he had chicken, strawberries and carrots before we left home.

Flashback

I just found this picture on our computer. Here is my precious baby boy on the way home from the hospital at 48 hours old. This almost makes me want another baby...........

Blogging break

Sorry I have not posted lately. I have been so busy with 4 birthday parties and a trip to Davidson that I feel like I have not had a minute to sit.

Hudson's birthday was a HUGE success. He had a wonderful time and was able to spend time with every single person in his family..... that is hard to do with so many of us. Our house is overflowing with toys and he is having so much fun playing with them.

We went down to Davidson for our niece Caroline's 2nd birthday party and I must say.... Hudson travels amazingly. He was a perfect angel in the car for 2 hours, stayed on schedule and had a blast.

Look at this face, couldn't you just eat it off?

One year old!

Dear Hudson,

One year ago tomorrow, you came into the world and changed our lives forever. Seeing your face for the first time was the most amazing and emotional thing we have ever experienced.

Everyday you make us laugh, smile, sometimes cry (in a good way) and love you so much more. You constantly amaze us with new tricks, words and silly faces. You have such a funny personality. You are very stubborn (we should have known after you made your grand entrance 6 days late). You love to laugh, dance, jump, hit daddy's face, play with Bailey and hide from mommy. You are constantly into everything, enjoy being around other children and love your family.

Seeing your face every morning is my favorite part of the day. You always have the biggest smile and hug waiting for us.

You make us want to be better people. We promise to always make you proud. We will try our hardest not to embarrass you as you grow up. We promise to always listen to you and respect you. We promise to support the decisions that you make and to always stand beside you. We promise to teach you right from wrong and to respect others. We promise to show you how to be a responsible man and to chose the right path. We promise to never hold you back in life and to teach you to always follow your heart. But above all, we promise to always love you and show you how important you are.

This year has flown by. I often look at you and wonder where my baby is. We hope you are always as happy as you are today. We hope you always love life and continue to learn something new everyday.

Thank you for loving us and showing us what true love, happiness and joy are. You continue to bless our lives and we look forward to every moment to come.

We love you,
Mommy and Daddy

1 year portraits

We had Hudson's 1 year portraits made this past Sunday. Our friend Carl of www.hoverstad.com took them and he always does a wonderful job! Excuse the sweat that you can see on all of us. We took them in 100 degree weather. Hudson was a trooper and Carl was awesome. He got some adorable shots in only 15 minutes. Can you believe in 1 week my little boy will be 1?

Softball fun

I am obsessed with this picture. Hudson and I went to Jonathan's softball game last night and had so much fun. He loved looking at his daddy. Go Strokers!

A little secret about a toddler

Here is a secret that all my other mom friends kept from me about having a toddler..... YOU WILL NEVER SIT STILL AGAIN! I am not exaggerating when I say that I spend 10 hours of my day following behind Speedy Gonzales and cleaning up his messes.

I am not complaining, Lord knows I love that little boy and I am so happy that he loves his toys and playing. But holy cow. My back hurts from bending over all day, my house looks empty because I cannot have any accessories or pictures at Hudson's level and I am no longer able to cook dinner because I have a little one between my feet or pulling everything out of the pantry.

Hudson is taking a nap now and I have a beer in my hands...... it is only 2pm! Cheers.

Here are some pictures of sweet boy from this past weekend....

June....

I realized yesterday morning that it is June. JUNE.... the month my baby turns 1. ONE! Hudson is going to be 1. I say it over and over and I still feel like there is no way that can be right. He was just in my tummy.

I look at him sometimes and my eyes fill up with tears. What a beautiful child Jonathan and I created. What a huge blessing in our lives and our families and friends lives he is. What a sweet, yet little terror he is. I love him so much that it just makes me cry sometimes.

I love seeing his little personality develop. I am terrified that he is more like me than his daddy. When we say "no," he turns around, laughs and keeps doing what he is doing. When we have to take him away from getting into something that he is not supposed to, he throws a complete temper tantrum. I just have to shake my head because I know this is what my mom was talking about when she used to say, "I hope you have a child who acts just like you used to."

I do not know if Jonathan and I will ever be able to have another baby so I soak in these moments with Hudson and wish that I could bottle them up so that I will always have them. I love being able to blog about it so I can show it to him when he is older.

So until my next post, you can just imagine me at home holding onto Hudson, wishing that time would stop flying by and having tears in my eyes..... because that is what my days look like.

Pool bum

Hudson turned into a pool bum this weekend. He LOVES the water. Thank goodness. He reclined himself in his float, played with some toys and soaked in the sun.
